Establishment of Hordijk
In 1922, Groeneveld Hordijk establishes his own Hordijk carpentry in Berkel en Rodenrijs. Through his network, Groeneveld had good contact with horticulturists. For them, he specialised in wooden packaging for the horticultural sector.
Acquisition of the Delft factory
In 1946, Groeneveld expands his business. He takes over a manufacturer of wooden greenhouse building materials and wooden packaging located in Delft.
Acquisition Zaandam
The business continues to grow. A new acquisition follows in 1954. Groeneveld takes over a manufacturer of wooden packaging in Zaandam.
The start of thermoforming
Wood as a raw material is replaced in Zaandam in 1966. A beginning is made with extrusion and the production of thermoformed plastic packaging.
The start of greenhouse construction
In 1969, Hordijk expands within the horticultural sector: they start with supplying greenhouse systems. In cooperation with Voskamp and Vrijland, Alcomij is established. A new challenge begins: Alcomij produces greenhouses made from aluminium and steel, and no longer from wood.
Delft switches to EPS
In 1969, the branch in Delft switches to EPS for the production of packaging.
Alcomij 100% Hordijk
Changes at Alcomij. In 1985, Hordijk acquires 100% of the shares in Alcomij.
Hordijk Group 75 years
In 1997, the Hordijk Group celebrates its 75th anniversary. The Group already has 300 employees, who reach a yearly turnover of more than 125 million guilders.
The opening of DC Zaandam
In 1999, the new 6.700m2 distribution centre is opened on the Schellingweg.
Closure of the Berkel branch
The branch in Berkel and Rodenrijs is closed in 2007. This was the place where it all began back in 1922. It also marks the end of 85 years of production of wooden packaging and products.
Acquisition Zevenhuizen
In 2007, the injection moulding and extrusion blow moulding factory in Zevenhuizen is acquired.
Opening of a second factory
Hordijk Verpakkingen opens a second production site on the Daalderweg in Zaandam.
Completion of the new factory
In 2020, the new and sustainable production site is opened. The 25.000m2 factory is the second establishment for Hordijk Verpakkingen on the Daalderweg in Zaandam.
Royal Hordijk
Since January 1, 2022, the Hordijk Group will be 100 years old. On May 11th 2022, Hordijk was awarded the Royal designation. Now we are called: Royal Hordijk.
